Specialists from the Transbaikal State University (ZabSU) have presented a new environmentally friendly technology for processing placer gold mining waste dumps. The development allows extracting 0.35 grams of gold from one cubic meter of waste with minimal environmental impact.
The technology includes several stages. First, gravity concentration is applied, where minerals are separated using only water, without chemical reagents. Then, photoelectrochemical methods are used, which significantly reduces the consumption of toxic sodium cyanide traditionally used in gold mining.
Laboratory tests of the technology on small and enlarged samples have confirmed its effectiveness.
Experts hope to move on to creating a pilot industrial plant, which could open up new prospects for the environmentally safe processing of gold-containing waste.
