Specialists from SKB-1 and SKB-2 (part of the military-industrial holding company "Kingisepp Machine-Building Plant", KMZ) have started designing the "Kambala" workboat of the KMZ-870 project, the holding's press service reported.
The boat will be part of a research vessel for studying the Arctic. "Kambala" will tow a remotely operated sonar to study the seabed and work in tandem with an autonomous underwater vehicle. It can be used to organize the landing of a crew on an ice floe.
The boat's crew consists of 6 people. The hull is designed to be able to navigate through broken ice.
"Kambala" will be equipped with components developed at KMZ: the main engine, diesel generator, stern winch, and launch and recovery device.
