E-scooter sales in Russia decreased by 24% in 2024. The reason is market saturation and the growing popularity of kicksharing, which is more convenient for users. Additionally, stricter rules and an increasing number of accidents are deterring demand.
The average e-scooter price decreased by 6% to 13,200 rubles. Sales on marketplaces fell by 36%, while revenue of specialized sellers decreased by 47.7% to 503.8 million rubles. Wildberries and Ozon report increased demand, but this is due to the expansion of their product range.
The popularity of rentals is growing: the number of transactions for ride payments increased by 22%, with the average bill reaching 299 rubles. In Moscow, 70 million trips were made during the 2024 season, 9% more than the previous year. Kicksharing is becoming a convenient part of the transportation system, and operators are expanding their fleets. "Yandex Scooters" increased their fleet by 15%, "MTS Urent" by 1.5 times, and Whoosh by 43%. Companies are entering cities with populations of 100,000 or more, accelerating market development.
The market has reached saturation: in 2020–2022, Russians bought 540,000 e-scooters. Strict rules are also having an impact: in the spring of 2023, e-scooters were officially included in the traffic regulations, and the fine for drunk driving on an e-scooter was 45,000 rubles. The number of accidents involving personal mobility devices (PMDs) increased by 47.2% in January–September 2024, with 66% of accidents involving rental scooters. These factors are cooling interest in personal transport, reinforcing the trend towards rentals.
