Information appeared on social networks that from February 1, 2025, owners of cars older than 10 years will face fines – from 2,000 to 5,000 rubles – for violating environmental standards. Automotive journalist Maxim Kadakov explained why these reports are not true.
This is utter nonsense. There have been no legislative changes. And no links to the age of transport have appeared. They still fine 500 rubles for "dirty" exhaust – and even then, rarely. <…> If a car meets the Euro 0 standard, it is sinful to ask the owner to comply with Euro 5 standards.
According to the auto journalist, a fine can be issued to a car with a cut or burned-out catalytic converter. However, this is not tied to the age of the car.
An inspector can issue an order to return the car to its factory condition – that is, install a neutralizer. And if this requirement is not met, the car may be deregistered.
According to him, this mechanism applies to all changes in the design of vehicles that have not been legalized.
