Operating life of Leningrad NPP Unit 3 extended until 2030

Rostekhnadzor has issued a license to operate the unit for another five years

Rostekhnadzor has issued a license to continue operating Leningrad NPP Unit 3 until 2030.

This decision was the result of a comprehensive assessment of the equipment condition, analysis of documentation, as well as the implementation of necessary modernization measures and replacement of components that had reached the end of their service life.

The service life of the third unit has already been extended by 15 years after the previous modernization. Work on extending the service life of Russian NPP units has been underway since 1998, and the third units are no exception.

According to Vladimir Pereguda, Director of the Leningrad NPP, extending the service life not only contributes to electricity generation, but also supports jobs and continues the production of unique isotope products. These measures are part of a broader plan that includes the construction and commissioning of two new VVER-1200 units.

The Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant (LNPP) began operations in 1974. In total, since its launch in 1979, power unit No. 3 has generated more than 290 billion kWh of electricity.
