Russian Railways (RZD) has assessed the freight car fleet. Their number will reach 1.65 million units by 2028, which is 43% more than the calculated demand.
The issue of registering gondola cars also remains unresolved. Consequently, 3.15 thousand units of production are idle on factory tracks.
At the same time, there are over 700 railcars on factory tracks that have been registered and assigned a number, but either have no buyer or no defined purpose for transportation.
The company has urged manufacturing plants to cease production of gondola cars and tank cars. As an alternative, they suggested launching the production of hoppers or other specialized railcars.
Railcar manufacturers also received recommendations from RZD. The first is to sell railcars without a number, subsequently transporting them as cargo on their own axles, and then registering them by the new owner. The second recommendation involves including a clause in the contract that obligates the future owner to begin the railcar registration process three months before its delivery.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that over 2,500 new railcars cannot be used due to the refusal of Russian Railways (RZD) to accept them onto its network.
