Легкий и дешевый: ударопрочный композит из стали разработали в Иркутске

The material was created using additive technologies

A super-strong steel-based composite has been created at Irkutsk National Research Technical University (IRNITU).

The wire-arc cladding method was used to create the material.

The team's task was to reduce the thickness and weight of steel plates. To do this, they created a gradient-functional material on the surface of a steel sheet using additive technologies. The approach made it possible to reduce the thickness of the sheet several times, significantly lighten the plate without losing its impact-resistant properties.

Experts conducted tests of the steel composite at a special training ground.

This iron alloy is the main one for the production of armored vehicles. Among its advantages are high ballistic characteristics and low cost.

Scientists will continue to improve the material.

Earlier www1.ru reported that Chelyabinsk scientists created a superhard alloy with unique characteristics.
