Recently, there has been a massive theft of accounts in Telegram through secret chats in Russia. Scammers impersonate the messenger's support service.
Through secret chats, attackers send the victim a message about an "upcoming account deletion" and offer to follow a fake link to "cancel the deletion." If a person clicks on the link, they instantly lose access to their account and all personal information.
Secret chats are not deleted in the standard way. It is impossible to screenshot them or forward a message to a moderator.
As a result, scammers gain access to the victim's contacts, personal data, photos, videos, and audio messages, which they then use to deceive not only the victim but also their loved ones.
A real message sent by Telegram support should have a verified badge — a blue checkmark next to the sender's name. Support staff do not create secret chats to communicate with users.
