Россиянам объяснили, почему нельзя переводить деньги по номеру телефона незнакомцам

Transferring money to a stranger can result in a prison sentence for complicity in financing terrorism — up to life imprisonment

The Main Department of Regional Security of the Moscow Region warned Russians against transferring money to strangers by phone number. Such transfers may be requested, for example, in a store or market under the pretext that the seller's electronic terminal for card payment has allegedly broken down. However, such a transfer can cost you money and freedom.

By transferring money to a stranger, for example, in a market or in transport, you may become an accomplice in financing terrorism. Be careful with charitable collections — good intentions can turn into serious problems. Even one ruble transferred can entail serious punishment: according to Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, financing terrorism is punishable by million-dollar fines and imprisonment up to life imprisonment.

In this regard, Russians are asked to use legal methods of payment for services and are advised to think carefully before transferring money to strangers.

Earlier, Russian cyber police explained why you shouldn't talk to strangers via video calls. After such a conversation, fraudsters can take your video data and voice recording, run it through a neural network and pass biometric identification in the bank instead of you.
