The assembly of hulls of dredgers (special vessels for dredging operations) with replaceable milling and rotary-bucket rippers continues at the production site of the Southern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Center of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC).
The milling ripper uses rotating cutters to grind dense soil, providing a high degree of crushing. The rotary-bucket ripper captures and lifts soil with buckets. All dredging equipment, hydraulics, technological winches and automation are produced in Russia.
The contract for the supply of six vessels was signed with the State Transport Leasing Company. The construction of the first three dredgers began in 2024, and work on the remaining three will start this year. The keel-laying of the first of them is scheduled for March 2025.
The main purpose of the vessels is to perform dredging operations, including the development of silt, sand and sandy-gravel soils. Dredgers are used to clean rivers and canals from silt, as well as to lay various hydraulic structures.
