The Institute of Computational Mathematics and Mathematical Geophysics SB RAS (ICM&MG SB RAS) has presented a new computing platform for assessing earthquake precursors, according to Mikhail Marchenko, acting director of the institute.
Existing methods for predicting earthquake precursors rely on data about vibrations. The new platform uses information obtained from geo-electrical monitoring.
The stress of the earth's crust and its resistance to rocks are closely related, and in this regard, our methodology is a new approach.
During monitoring, a powerful current is sent underground. Then, data from stations located at a considerable distance from the test site is analyzed. The methodology has been successfully tested at the Bishkek Geodynamic Proving Ground.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that a hybrid tracker for transport monitoring has appeared in Russia.
