Gel for Preventing Infections Created in Tomsk

Eutectogel will eliminate the use of antibiotics after surgery

New antibacterial eutectogels based on deep eutectic solvents (DES) have been synthesized at Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU). This was reported by the university's press service.

 Preliminary studies have shown that they effectively suppress bacterial growth, prevent the formation of bacterial biofilms, and are able to destroy already formed biofilms.

According to Gleb Dubinenko, a junior researcher at the TPU Plasma Hybrid Systems Laboratory, the new gels will help prevent the development of dangerous chronic infectious diseases. In addition, the development will make it possible to eliminate the use of antibiotics in the postoperative period.
