Fraudsters specializing in hacking mobile devices are now offering their victims to install new applications that are supposedly necessary to pay for utilities or make an appointment with a doctor. This was reported in the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In 2024, there have been more frequent cases of unauthorized access to user accounts on social networks. Attackers used this data to send phishing links that were disguised as official notifications from services.
At the same time, fraudsters introduce themselves on the phone as employees of management companies or medical institutions and offer to install a new application for paying utility bills or making an appointment with a doctor.
These programs are designed so that attackers can remotely access mobile devices and steal money, the department warned.
Russians were urged not to follow suspicious links, and were also strongly advised to check website addresses before entering personal data and not to install programs from unreliable sources.
Earlier, Russians were warned that on the eve of the New Year holidays, the activity of Internet fraudsters who use the holiday bustle to steal user data is growing. One of the most popular schemes is false payment notifications. Users are offered to install an "official application" under the pretext of receiving New Year bonuses, which may lead to the loss of personal data.
