North Korea has sent a new batch of 170-mm self-propelled artillery units (SPGs) M1978 "Koksan" to Russia. This was reported by Military Watch Magazine, citing a video that appeared online.
The M1978 "Koksan" SPG is second only to the Soviet 2S7M "Malka", which is currently in service with the Russian Armed Forces, in size. The North Korean howitzer has a long range.
The M1978 "Koksan" SPG entered service with the DPRK troops in the 1970s. Since then, it has been repeatedly modernized.
Early modifications of the howitzer were tested in real combat operations. They were used by the Iranian Armed Forces in the conflict with Iraq.
Military Watch Magazine also claims that North Korea has supplied Russia with more than 6 million artillery shells. These are 122 mm, 152 mm and 170 mm caliber ammunition.
It should be reminded that there has been no official confirmation from the Russian authorities regarding the transfer of North Korean weapons.
