Russian medical experts discussed the importance of genomic sequencing for improving the effectiveness of diagnosing hereditary diseases. This and other topics were raised at the conference "Biobanking in Russia: From Theory to Practice."
Elza Khusnutdinova, Director of the Institute of Biochemistry and Genetics of the Ufa Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, noted that the widespread introduction of these methods could bring diagnostic efficiency up to 100%.
Another important topic of discussion was the role of biobanks in preserving unique genetic material. Irina Nikolaeva, Head of the Medical Genetic Center, spoke about plans to create a national biobank in Yakutia. It will preserve DNA, RNA, and tissues for subsequent analysis using modern technologies.
Experts also discussed the need to create integrated centers that can effectively work with patients and collect biomaterials for scientific research. Natalya Bodunova, Head of the Center for Personalized Medicine in Moscow, spoke about the difficulties of diagnosing myopathy in various regions of the country. To improve the situation, a closed diagnostic cycle was created, where patients can be gathered for analysis, which contributes to the effective formation of a biobank for further research.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that Russia will provide itself with 90% of its own medical preparations by 2030.
