Sechenov University Graduate Creates Innovative VR Emergency Simulator

The development will help in training medical professionals

Yulia Kolosova, a graduate of the Digital Department of the First Moscow State Medical University named after I. M. Sechenov, presented a unique project — a VR simulator that offers interactive scenarios for medical workers. The simulator allows doctors to practice emergency care skills in critical situations such as bleeding, pulmonary edema, and anaphylactic shock. Here are the details.

Lack of skills, stress, and fear of making a mistake in life-threatening conditions in patients can prevent novice medical professionals from providing effective assistance.

To solve this problem, a VR simulator was created that allows repeated practice of skills in a safe virtual environment. This not only reduces the financial costs of training but also improves the quality of medical care, as medical professionals can practice actions without risk to patients' health.

The project already includes a prototype of virtual simulators available for both individual specialists and groups of medical professionals. The program includes two modes: training with prompts and control without them, which allows medical workers to assess their mistakes and improve their skills in real-time.

Yulia Kolosova is confident that the simulator will be especially useful in the field of primary care and for doctors of narrow specialization. The completion of testing and the introduction of the new VR simulator is scheduled for 2027.
