Powerful footage has gone viral showing the interception of an American RQ-20 Puma optoelectronic reconnaissance UAV by the crew of the Strela-10NM short-range SAM system. The air reconnaissance drone was hit by a modernized anti-aircraft guided missile with a three-band optoelectronic homing head.
The missile has target selection modes against the background of optoelectronic interference based on spectral and trajectory characteristics.
The photo-contrast channel of the OEGSN provides the 9M333 SAM with direction finding and "capture" not only of large aircraft-type UAVs, similar to the RQ-20, but also of copters such as the "Baba Yaga", as well as smaller drones in complex jamming environments.
The modernized Strela-10NM/M4 SAM systems are equipped with infrared sights for effective operation against heat-contrast targets at night at a distance of up to 3500 m. The maximum speed of targets hit by the 9M333 SAM is 1500 km/h.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the Russian Aerospace Forces have begun to use ultra-long-range bombs with UMPB.
