Bio-ink for printing organs created at Sechenov University

The development is based on hydrogel with the secret of mesenchymal stem cells

Scientists from the Institute of Regenerative Medicine at Sechenov University have developed bio-ink based on hydrogel enriched with the secret of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). According to researchers, this new composition demonstrates the ability to stimulate cell migration and regulate inflammatory processes.

Mesenchymal stem cells have high regenerative potential and immunomodulatory activity. However, their use in clinical practice is associated with certain difficulties (complexity of storage, transportation, and expensive preparation stages).

Therefore, scientists are increasingly turning to the secret - a mixture of cytokines, growth factors, and extracellular vesicles released by cells during their growth. This solution simplifies the production and logistics of finished products, as the secret weighs less than the cells themselves.

We analyzed the secret of MSCs from various sources under various cell culture conditions and developed a method for obtaining it with pronounced biological activity. Encapsulation in a biocompatible hydrogel allows preserving the biological activity of the components and ensuring reproducibility of the result, which is critical for future clinical application.

The developed hydrogel served as the basis for bio-inks, which will be used in biofabrication technology. This direction involves the manufacture of tissue-engineered structures in laboratory conditions, which brings us closer to creating functional organs "on demand."

In the near future, researchers plan to focus on creating complex tissues of the periodontal complex, which opens up new horizons in regenerative medicine.

Earlier www1.ru reported that Scientists from Sechenov University are developing AI technology for creating biological tissues.
