Russian company Uranium One (part of Rosatom Group) has sold 49.99% of shares in the joint venture "Zarechnoye", located at the uranium deposit of the same name in Kazakhstan. This was reported on December 17 by the Kazakh company Kazatomprom.
The buyer of the stake was SNURDC Astana Mining Company, owned by China's State Nuclear Uranium Resources Development, which is a subsidiary of one of the three state-owned nuclear power plant operators in China.
The "Zarechnoye" deposit was discovered in 1977 in the Turkestan region. As of the beginning of 2024, it has uranium reserves of 3,500 tons. The completion of the deposit development is scheduled for 2028. Kazatomprom's share in the project remained at 49.99% after SNURDC joined the joint venture.
According to experts, the deal could bring the Russian side between $300 and $400 million, considering the rise in natural uranium prices, which have tripled since 2021. In 2021, Rosatom already sold its assets in the United States, earning about $130 million for comparable assets.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that Russia in 2025 will develop a new deposit with 5.7 billion tons of coal.
