Experiment to study the energy spectrum of neutrons was conducted on the ISS

Cosmonauts of the International Space Station successfully conducted the scientific experiment "BTN-Neutron-2", the purpose of which is to study the energy spectrum of neutrons and their distribution both inside and outside the station. This was reported by the special correspondent of TASS, Roscosmos cosmonaut Ivan Wagner.

The experiment allows analyzing neutron fluxes from various sources: the Sun, the albedo of the Earth's atmosphere, and the materials of the station itself, which have been exposed to radiation. In addition, the radiation protection properties of various materials are being studied, which in the future will help create more effective protection for the crew in manned missions to the Moon and Mars. The equipment for the experiment was delivered on board by the Progress MS-29 cargo ship.

As Wagner clarified, preparations for the experiment began at the end of last week. Together with his colleague Alexey Ovchinin, they laid the necessary cables, assembled a special module-shelf, and installed the equipment, connecting it to the station's cable network.
