The Nutcracker ballet with virtual scenery: innovations from the Vaganova Ballet Academy at the Kremlin

Innovative 3D scenery will give the performance a unique visual effect, preserving the classic beauty of the ballet

The Nutcracker ballet, which young dancers from the Vaganova Ballet Academy will present at the State Kremlin Palace on December 18 and 19, will feature virtual scenery. This was announced by Nikolai Tsiskaridze, Rector of the Vaganova Ballet Academy and People's Artist of the Russian Federation, to TASS.

Answering a question about the introduction of innovations in ballet art, Tsiskaridze pointed out that new technologies are actively used in the production, including virtual scenery.

New technologies are, of course, being applied. For example, the Nutcracker ballet, which we are bringing to the State Kremlin Palace, features virtual scenery.

For the production of The Nutcracker, the Vaganova Ballet Academy uses innovative 3D-animated scenery specially designed for this performance. The solution gives the performance a modern sound, complementing its traditional beauty. These virtual decorations, created taking into account the specifics of the work, allow viewers to be transported to the atmosphere of German romanticism, characteristic of the ballet's plot. In the process of creating the scenery, video fragments filmed inside the Academy were used, including episodes in which students manipulate оживающими dolls, which adds dynamism and expressiveness to the visual range.

The process of working on these unique decorations required the cooperation of a professional team, and the result was carefully согласован with teachers and tutors who were preparing the performance. Thus, the use of multimedia solutions in The Nutcracker will not only enrich the visual experience of viewers, but also enhance the magic of ballet art, while maintaining respect for classical traditions.
