The 120-mm automated self-propelled gun 2S31 "Vena" has been developed for the Russian military. Thanks to its power and versatility, it is designed to destroy and suppress enemy firing assets and manpower, as well as armored objects and command and observation posts.
The 2S31 "Vena" gun is mounted on a tracked armored floating chassis developed on the units of the BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle. It is capable of overcoming trenches on the move and following tanks. The gun can conduct aimed fire by direct laying and from concealed positions without preliminary preparation of a firing position.
The 120-mm rifled semi-automatic gun fires both standard high-explosive fragmentation shells and 120-mm mines. The standard 120-mm shell for the "Vena" is comparable in power to the effect of 152/155 mm high-explosive fragmentation shells.
Main characteristics of the 2S31 "Vena":
- Crew — 4 people
- Combat weight — 19.1 t
- Rate of fire — 10 rounds/min
- Ammunition load — 70 rounds
- Range — 600 km
- Maximum firing range: high-explosive fragmentation mine — 7100 m, high-explosive fragmentation shell — 13000 m
