Kazan to Implement Artificial Intelligence to Identify Drug Dealers and Smokers on the Streets

Kazan announced the development of a system using street video cameras.

Kazan plans to use artificial intelligence to identify drug dealers using street surveillance cameras. Albert Yakovlev, Deputy Minister of Digital Development of Public Administration, Information Technologies and Communications of Tatarstan, announced this, noting that the solution is under development.

Yakovlev emphasized that artificial intelligence is a powerful tool that needs to be used correctly. Currently, developers are working on new mathematical models to recognize various human behavior scenarios, which will help identify non-standard actions related to the distribution of prohibited substances. According to him, it is also planned to detect drug dealers using video cameras.

A network of video cameras is already functioning in Tatarstan, and the current solution is under development. Yakovlev added that other regions are also showing interest in Tatarstan's AI solutions, and the republic is actively sharing its experience.

Earlier, in July, it became known about the launch of a function to identify violators using artificial intelligence in the IT parks of Kazan and Naberezhnye Chelny. At the first stage, AI is focused on identifying smokers. The head of the Ministry of Digital Development of Tatarstan, Ayrat Khairullin, noted then that the introduction of next-generation video analytics opens up new opportunities for improving safety and efficiency in various areas of the republic.
