An unmanned electric truck based on the GAZelle has been created at the St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University "LETI". This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
To collect information about road traffic, the car is equipped with a complex of various sensors: lidars (laser locators) allow you to get information about the distance between the drone and other objects at any time of the day; video cameras collect visual data, an inertial navigation system helps the truck move along a given trajectory, GPS is used to track movement by satellite.
Data from the sensors is analyzed and filtered by software. Based on them, the actions of an unmanned truck are built.
Our development was successfully tested in autonomous mode on public roads as part of unmanned vehicle competitions in the Alabuga special economic zone in the Republic of Tatarstan. However, the functionality that we put into our truck allows us to solve much more tasks than just moving along highways.
The developers also plan to use the car for transporting goods on the territory of industrial enterprises.
Earlier www1.ru reported that an unmanned truck was developed in St. Petersburg.
