The STM-308 rifle has been developed for Russian snipers. It was conceived as a more effective analogue of the standard SVD military rifle, the manufacturer Soyuz-TM said.
The new product is made in a linear layout, all mechanisms in it are located on the same line.
For example, in the SVD, the piston line is above the barrel line, and a bending moment occurs during firing. Here, the bolt group and the return mechanism are at the same level. When firing from the SVD, the rifle jumps up and you have to aim again. With the STM-308, you can immediately see the hit. At the same time, it has a smaller mass than the SVD.
The new rifle allows you to work at a distance of 800 m, and an experienced sniper — up to 1 km. A Picatinny rail is installed on top, thanks to which the rifle can be equipped with a variety of devices, the weapon is equipped with an adjustable butt.
Special forces need weapons that will help solve specific tasks. Standard army rifles may not be well suited for some of them. Therefore, special forces often select rifles, ammunition and equipment for themselves, according to the specifics of their work.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the characteristics of the latest Russian missile "Whirlwind-1" became known. The ammunition is guided to the target by a laser beam.
