The Roscosmos State Corporation is working on creating an upgraded version of the Angara-1.2M light launch vehicle. This was announced by Deputy General Director for Rocket Projects Dmitry Baranov.
The first launch of the updated launch vehicle from the Plesetsk cosmodrome is possible only in the distant future — after 2035.
One of the main technical innovations will be the replacement of the first stage engines with more advanced power plants with increased thrust and increased specific impulse. The modernization will improve the efficiency of the rocket.
The exact payload capacity of the Angara-1.2M will be determined based on the results of the design. For comparison, the current basic version of the rocket is capable of launching 3.5 tons of cargo into low orbit.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the Angara rocket launched secret satellites of the Ministry of Defense into orbit.
