«Transmashholding» (TMH) plans to launch a hydrogen train in test operation in 2026, according to the company's CEO Kirill Lipa.
The train will not become a mass product. However, Russia plans to accumulate experience in the production of such locomotives.
Undoubtedly, this technology has its own area of application — both economic and technological. The target formula is that it should be more competitive than the diesel we traditionally use.
Earlier, the «Tver Carriage Works» (TVZ, part of TMH) manufactured and sent four bodies of head cars and two sets of elements for the booster section of the hydrogen train to the Demikhovsky Machine-Building Plant for further assembly. Currently, similar tests of the intermediate car body are being conducted in the laboratory of the Tver Institute of Carriage Construction.
