The Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) has developed the first samples of light and stable environmentally friendly aviation fuel, the university's press service reported.
The new development includes composite raw materials — vegetable oils (tall, camelina, rapeseed, waste cooking oils) and industrial waste from oil refineries.
A feature of our product is the relatively low content of aromatic components, which contribute to soot formation during combustion. This will reduce the level of harmful emissions into the environment.
The alternative fuel is superior to its counterparts. It not only causes less harm to the environment, but also has a number of other advantages.
Our biofuel has better thermo-oxidative stability, which minimizes fuel oxidation and changes in its characteristics during flight when used as a heat transfer agent. Biofuel is also characterized by better distillation performance, which affects the reduction in the duration of the fuel mixture preparation process.
The developers have already begun research to identify the most successful fuel samples. In the future, it will be tested on small-sized aircraft engines.
Earlier www1.ru reported that a new way to recycle spent nuclear fuel was invented in Russia.
