Russia Expands International Transport Corridors

Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced plans to increase the capacity of the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) and the Trans-Siberian Railway (Transsib) to 270 million tons over the next 10 years. In 2023, the capacity of these mainlines is 180 million tons.

Speaking at the plenary session of the Russian Energy Week, Putin emphasized that the development of the Eastern Railway Polygon will significantly increase the volume of transportation, especially fuel and energy goods and their processed products, from the Siberian regions to international markets, including the Global South.

In addition, the President noted that Russia is actively working on expanding international transport corridors, with the aim of increasing the volume of traffic along them by at least 1.5 times by 2030 compared to 2021 levels.
