В России могут начать штрафовать водителей за курение электронных сигарет за рулём

Plans to introduce fines for using any devices while driving

Russia plans to introduce a fine of 1,500 rubles for drivers who vape and use disposable devices while driving. If the amendments are adopted, cameras will also be able to record cases when drivers are distracted by smartphones for texting or watching videos.

According to information provided by Mash, the changes may affect paragraph 2.7 of the Traffic Regulations, which already prohibits the use of mobile phones without a special stand. In the current version, only the use of the phone at the ear is fined, but the Ministry of Transport proposes to expand this list to "all devices" so that the driver's hands are completely free.

As clarified by the National Automobile Union, the new rules will apply not only to telephones, but also to electronic cigarettes, horns and other gadgets. If such violations are detected by cameras, a fine of 1,500 rubles will be imposed. The issue of smoking regular cigarettes while driving is also being considered, but it is planned to be discussed separately. Currently, the project is at the stage of public discussion and will be finalized by October 10.
