Russian "flying" T-80BVM tanks produced by Omsktransmash (part of UVZ) have become practically invulnerable to drone attacks with shaped-charge warheads, which is explained by the presence of modernized protection. We are talking about mesh screens designed to protect the engine compartment and the rear of the turret from shaped-charge grenades, guided missiles and FPV drones, writes Eurasian Times.
The upper turret is protected by the so-called "mangal", double side screens with active protective elements protect the wings. Additional protection provides almost complete coverage of the combat vehicle from all sides.
At the same time, the "Nakidka" system additionally reduces the thermal, radar and visual signature of the tank. This is a direct response from engineers to a request from military personnel operating T-80BVM tanks.
The tanks are also equipped with indestructible wheel guide protection and dynamic armor, which detonates explosive charges at a distance from the main armor, thereby preserving the integrity of the vehicle during explosions.
According to the Eurasian Times, the T-80BVM, which received additional protection, has become much more survivable than Western tanks such as the Abrams and Leopard.
