The Russian arms conglomerate, Kalashnikov, has developed a new 5.45mm caliber machine gun for the needs of the Russian Armed Forces. It is planned to present it to the public soon, according to the head of the conglomerate, Alan Lushnikov.
According to Lushnikov, the machine gun is intended to increase the efficiency and expand the combat capabilities of marine infantry, special forces, airborne troops, and ground forces. He emphasized that the development was carried out according to the technical specifications of the customer.
The product is seen as a means of fire support for military units for long and dense firing with the use of a light 5.45 by 39 mm cartridge, which increases the portable ammunition load.
Earlier it was reported that a 5.45 mm caliber light machine gun is undergoing state tests. In addition to the main caliber, it was planned to produce export versions of the weapon under NATO calibers 7.62 mm and 5.56 mm.
