The Russian arms concern Kalashnikov has developed a new 5.45mm machine gun for the needs of the Russian Armed Forces. It is planned to present it to the public soon, said the head of the concern, Alan Lushnikov.
According to Lushnikov, the machine gun is designed to increase the efficiency and expand the combat capabilities of marine infantry, special forces, airborne troops, and ground forces. He emphasized that the development was carried out according to the technical specifications of the customer.
The product is considered as a means of fire support for military units for long and dense firing with the use of a light 5.45 by 39 mm cartridge, which increases the portable ammunition load.
Earlier it was reported that a 5.45 mm caliber light machine gun is undergoing state tests. In addition to the main caliber, it was planned to produce export versions of weapons under NATO calibers 7.62 mm and 5.56 mm.
