The "Yasen-M": Nuclear Cruiser K-564 "Arkhangelsk" Begins Sea Trials

Specialists from JSC "Sevmash" will check the operation of the OK-650V reactor

The multipurpose nuclear submarine cruiser K-564 "Arkhangelsk" of Project 885M "Yasen-M" is starting factory sea trials. Specialists from JSC "Sevmash" (part of USC) will check the operating modes of the integrated nuclear power plant based on the OK-650V reactor, aggregated into a single unit with a steam generating plant. This was reported by military expert Evgeny Damantsev.

According to him, engineers will also test the Mirage block single-shaft steam turbine unit (STU) (produced by PJSC "Kaluga Turbine Plant", KTZ) based on the main turbine gear unit of the OK-9VM class with a capacity of about 43,000 hp. Specialists will test a low-noise 7-bladed propeller with a reduced cavitation coefficient of saber-shaped blades.

The underwater displacement of the submarine K-564 "Arkhangelsk" is 13,800 tons, the maximum speed is 31 knots. The operating depth of the nuclear submarine is up to 450 m.

The submarines of Project 885M "Yasen-M" are the most expensive, powerful and silent in the world. In the West, submarines of this project cause serious concern.
