Half the Size of a Postage Stamp: World's Smallest Metro Map Created at MIPT

«Lefty» Craftsmen from Sobyanin's Team Create a Moscow Metro Map Measuring Only 2 cm²

Specialists from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) have created a miniature version of the Moscow Metro map. It is the smallest metro map in the world, measuring 2 cm².

The image is applied to a silicon wafer using lithography technology. The images are fixed with gold sputtering.

The line size is 13 times smaller than standard metro maps and twice as thin as a human hair. The station names are only 15 microns (0.015 mm).

The miniature metro map is half the size of a postage stamp. Despite its size, it features all 430 metro stations, the MCC (Moscow Central Circle), and the MCD (Moscow Central Diameters).

You can see the smallest metro map in the world at the People's Museum of the Moscow Metro and the Museum of History of MIPT.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that three new metro lines will appear in Moscow by 2030.
