The TOS-2 «Tosochka» heavy flamethrower system is an automated combat vehicle that quickly deploys, strikes, and retreats from a firing position. This is its main difference from the TOS-1A «Solntsepyok», according to a Russian flamethrower platoon commander with the call sign Saratov.
The serviceman previously performed combat missions as part of the TOS-1A crew and knows this machine like the back of his hand. Then Saratov switched to «Tosochka».
The first advantage is time. In the case of the TOS-1A «Solntsepyok», you need to get into a firing position, find landmarks, and find out the standing point. «Tosochka» does everything itself: determines the location, target coordinates, and calculates everything itself. Secondly, the TOS has shells of increased power, therefore, the affected area is larger. The TOS-1A «Solntsepyok» based on a tank develops a speed of up to 70-75 km/h, and the TOS-2 «Tosochka» based on the «Ural» - up to 130 km/h. Less time is needed to retreat from a firing position.
