The TOS-1A "Solntsepyok" heavy flamethrower systems, manufactured at the Omsk Transport Machine-Building Plant (part of the Uralvagonzavod concern), perform combat missions day and night. This was reported by the press service of Rostec.
The corporation explained that the TOS-1A is capable of covering up to four square kilometers with fire in a single salvo. At the same time, the blast wave overlaps, which enhances the damaging effect.
The TOS-1A "Solntsepyok" uses vacuum ammunition of increased power. The shells spray an aerosol cloud of combustible substance, which is ignited by a special charge. The fireball creates a high-pressure zone at the epicenter of the explosion. Thus, thermobaric ammunition penetrates places that are inaccessible to fragmentation-type ammunition.
In 2023, the Omsk Transport Machine-Building Plant increased the production of TOS-1A "Solntsepyok" by 2.5 times. The company switched to a round-the-clock operation mode and expanded its production site.
