The TOS-1A "Solntsepek" heavy flamethrower systems, produced at the Omsk Transport Machine-Building Plant (part of the Uralvagonzavod concern), perform combat missions day and night. This was reported in the press service of Rostec.
The corporation explained that the TOS-1A is capable of covering up to four square kilometers with fire in one volley. At the same time, the blast wave is superimposed on one another, which enhances the damaging effect.
Vacuum ammunition of increased power is used for the TOS-1A "Solntsepek". The shells spray an aerosol cloud of combustible substance, which is ignited by a special charge. The fireball creates a high-pressure zone at the epicenter of the explosion. Thus, thermobaric ammunition penetrates places that are inaccessible to fragmentation-type ammunition.
In 2023, the Omsk Transport Machine-Building Plant increased the production of TOS-1A "Solntsepek" by 2.5 times. The company switched to a round-the-clock operation mode and expanded its production site.
