Hungarian electric buses "Ikarus" will appear on the roads of Azerbaijan. Ikarus Group has won a tender to supply equipment to the republic. By the end of 2024, 50 buses on an electric platform from the first batch will be shipped. Ikarus Group also plans to build its own plant in the country.
After three years of exporting finished electric buses, an Ikarus assembly plant with a capacity of 600 vehicles per year will be built in Azerbaijan
According to him, electric buses with a length of 8.5 meters and 12 meters will be supplied to Azerbaijan. "Ikarus" buses are sold to EU countries, as well as to the Turkic countries of the former USSR, Feher added.
It is worth recalling that by the end of the 80s, about 200 thousand "Ikarus" buses were delivered to the republics of the USSR. In Baku, until 1991, buses of this brand accounted for 90% of the public transport fleet.
The company producing "Ikarus" buses was closed in 2003 due to unprofitability. Attempts were made to restore production in 2006. Since 2010, businessman Gabor Seles has resumed stable assembly of buses at the Ikarus plant. Later, electric versions of "Ikarus" also appeared.
