The authorities of the Gagauz autonomy of Moldova will begin issuing bank cards of the Russian payment system "Mir" to residents from May 1. This was announced by the head of the region, Evgenia Gutsul, following her trip to Russia.
From May 1, we plan to issue Russian "Mir" bank cards to our pensioners. This is all feasible
Earlier, Gutsul met with the chairman of PJSC Promsvyazbank (PSB), Petr Fradkov. During the negotiations, they signed an agreement on establishing and developing cooperation in the financial and credit sphere. One of the points of the agreement is the opening of "Mir" cards for 20,000 pensioners and 5,000 employees of the budgetary sphere of Gagauzia.
Russia is actively introducing the "Mir" payment system after the departure of Mastarcard and Visa. Lastyear, 52% of all card transactions were carried out using "Mir" cards.
In addition, Russian financial institutions are expanding cooperation with other countries, connecting them to the system. For example, "Mir" cards have becomeaccepted for payments in Venezuela. However, somecountries, including Kyrgyzstan, under pressure from Western sanctions, are refusing to use the Russian payment system.
