Research is underway in Novosibirsk to create an unmanned aerial vehicle that will be resistant to strong winds. The project is primarily aimed at providing meteorologists with work in extreme weather conditions.
Siberian engineers claim that the prospects for using such a drone are not limited to meteorological research. However, in strong winds, existing models can lose stability and navigation. In this regard, a prototype of a light drone has been developed that can withstand gusts of wind. Scientists claim that such a device is capable of operating in the most extreme weather conditions, including strong hurricanes, which is not available for heavy drones.
In order to train the drone to adapt to atmospheric conditions, a unique aerodynamic test bench was developed. By creating a vortex flow with the help of dozens of fans, scientists simulate various atmospheric conditions, including the strength and direction of the wind. In such conditions, they launch the drone, and then analyze its behavior.
At the moment, physicists have already obtained intermediate results, studying the impact of various factors. Tests are being carried out with various types of propellers and body shapes. The software for the device is being developed from scratch. The demand and scope of such drones is extensive.
Small drones that are resistant to strong winds are important not only in meteorology, but also for many areas of activity around the world. It is predicted that the new aircraft will be available at a price comparable to existing models.
