The Russian 5.45 mm RPL-20 light machine gun, developed by specialists from the Kalashnikov concern, is distinguished by its ergonomics. It can be adapted to any combat conditions. This opinion was expressed by military expert Boyko Nikolov in an article for the Bulgarian Military publication.
RPL-20 is a tribute to tradition and a look into the future, a marvel of engineering.
The machine gun weighs 5.5 kg, which corresponds to the weight of a loaded backpack. The weapon is light and durable, easy to use. The RPL is suitable for 5.45x39 mm cartridges (the same as for the AK-12), which are fed on a belt.
This type of ammunition supply increases the fighter's ability to suppress the enemy with fire, which is considered an important advantage in skirmishes from trenches and in urban areas.
Kalashnikov developed the RPL-20 in two versions: with a 590 mm barrel for engaging targets at a distance of up to 1000 m and with a 415 mm barrel for close combat. The second option is not inferior to the AK-74 in terms of effective firing range.
The folding stock, supplemented by a shoulder rest, provides shooters with comfort and accuracy in various positions.
RPL-20 specifications:
- Cartridge used — 5.45x39 mm
- Ammunition type — belt-fed
- Belt for 100 or 200 rounds
- Rate of fire — about 700 rounds per minute
