An air-to-air missile is a missile launched from an aircraft to destroy an aerial target (aircraft, UAV, cruise missile). The Techbreak portal named the five most powerful missiles of this class.

Fakour 90 (Iran)

The Fakour 90 is a copy of the American AIM-54 Phoenix missile. The missile was launched from the American supersonic fighter Grumman F-14 Tomcat. The Fakour 90 is capable of flying at a speed of 5 Mach and hitting an aerial target at a distance of up to 150 km.

AIM-120D (USA)

All-weather guided medium-range missile (up to 180 km). Designed to engage aerial targets beyond visual range. It has been in service with the United States since 2014. The missile is launched from F-35, F-15EX and F-18E fighters.

Meteor (EU)

The missile was developed by MBDA to surpass the American AIM-120. Meteor entered service in 2016. It is capable of hitting aerial targets at a distance of up to 200 km. Launched from SAAB Gripen, Eurofighter and Dassault Rafale.

PL-15 (China)

Long-range missile (up to 300 km) with active radar homing. It is the most powerful missile in China. It has been in service since 2014. Launched from J-20 and J-35 fighters.

K-77M/Р-77М (Russia)

K-77M is the Russian analogue of the American AIM-120. The missile can destroy a target at a distance of up to 193 km. Equipped with an AESA radar. Launched from the fifth-generation Su-57 fighter.
