Russian Helicopters Holding Company (part of Rostec) will supply two heavy-class multi-purpose Mi-171A2 helicopters to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Bangladesh. This was reported by the Center for Analysis of World Arms Trade (TsAMTO).
According to the center, the first of the two Mi-171A2 helicopters (registration number S3-CPA) in the colors of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Bangladesh was spotted in Russia in late December 2024. The helicopter was undergoing flight factory tests.
About the Contract Between Russia and Bangladesh
Information about the contract of the Russian Helicopters holding company for the supply of Mi-171A2 appeared in November 2021. According to the document, the Russian side was supposed to transfer the rotorcraft in 2023. However, the deliveries were postponed to 2024.
According to Aerospaceglobalnews.com, the contract value was 1.91 billion Bangladeshi Taka (22.4 million dollars at the 2021 exchange rate). In the spring of 2024, the media wrote that Bangladesh would receive the first Mi-171A2 in July, and the second in August.
About the Mi-171A2 Helicopter
Mi-171A2 is a modification of Mi-8/17 type helicopters. The basis for the new rotorcraft was the Mi-171A1 civil model certified abroad. The Mi-171A2 received a new engine, a rotor system with transmission, and electronic equipment.
The Mi-171A2 is equipped with a VK-2500PS-03 engine (a civilian version of the engines used on Mi-28 combat helicopters).
The main differences of the new engine are the most modern Russian electronic automatic control system of the FADEC type and anti-surge protection. The BARK-78 automatic regulation and control unit made it possible to increase the engine power in emergency mode, ensure the maintenance of modes in a wider range of ambient temperatures, and increase resources and fuel efficiency.
The helicopter also received a less noisy X-shaped tail rotor and a main rotor with composite blades. Thanks to this, the rotor thrust increased by 700 kg, the helicopter speed increased by 10%, and the payload by 25%.
Mi-171A2 helicopter specifications:
- Maximum take-off weight - 13,000 kg
- The helicopter lifts 4 tons of cargo inside the cabin and 5 tons on an external sling
- Maximum speed - 280 km/h
- Cruising speed - 260 km/h
- Flight range with main fuel tanks - 800 km
