The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade expects to reduce the cost of the Russian MC-21 medium-haul aircraft to below 7.5 billion rubles by 2032. The head of the department, Anton Alikhanov, clarified that this refers to the price in 2026 economic conditions: the nominal cost of the airliner will be different by then.

The target was announced on September 18 at the ceremony of signing the Aeroflot contract and Rostec structures for 90 aircraft.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade attributes the cost reduction of several billion rubles primarily to increased serial production. A large order from Aeroflot creates production load for 2029–2032, when the carrier is expected to receive 90 MC-21s: 14 aircraft in 2029, 18 in 2030, 24 in 2031, and 34 in 2032. Simultaneously, OAK and its contractors will have to reduce production costs.

Repricing – a review of the cost of components and production operations – will be a separate area. According to Alikhanov, the plan provides for the development of a network of alternative suppliers, which should expand opportunities for reducing aircraft costs. The current actual cost of the MC-21 is not disclosed in the new statement.

The state also plans to bear part of the burden associated with the costs of research and development work.

However, the target of 7.5 billion rubles cannot be considered the already established price for future aircraft. This is a planned target of the Ministry of Industry and Trade in 2026 prices, the achievement of which the department links to increased output, improved production efficiency, and changes in supply chains.
