Re-engining of the SSJ-100 with Russian PD-8 engines could have been a way to save part of the fleet, but the time for such a decision has already been lost. It will not be possible to quickly compensate for the backlog now, explained Yury Tretyakov, a technical director in the aircraft manufacturing industry, to "Pervyy Tekhnicheskiy".

According to him, the issue of financing engine and aircraft modifications was discussed several years ago, but a clear algorithm was not formed then.

Tretyakov believes that it is first necessary to obtain a full series of engines within the framework of standard deliveries, and only then discuss payment for the product by airlines. Re-engining will require not only the installation of the PD-8, but also a complex of works on the SSJ-100 itself.

If we are talking about such a source in the person of airlines, it seems reasonable to first produce the first series of engines during standard, not accelerated, deliveries, and then offer airlines to pay extra for this product, and not vice versa.

At the same time, the age of SSJ-100 aircraft does not in itself mean the need for immediate write-off, Tretyakov emphasized. In world civil aviation, the service life of aircraft can be significantly extended if technical and regulatory procedures are observed.

Tretyakov considers the main issue to be the timing of the return of re-engined SSJ-100s to service and the economic model of the program.

According to preliminary estimates, the discussed re-engining program for about 50 aircraft could cost approximately 115 billion rubles, or about 2.3 billion rubles per liner.

For comparison, the cost of one new SJ-100 was estimated at 3.7 billion rubles. Deliveries to airlines could begin by the end of 2026.
