Increasing Tu-214 production turned out to be much more difficult than simply setting a new plan for the Kazan Aircraft Plant. The production of the Soviet-era airliner cannot be quickly brought to a modern conveyor, aviation expert Roman Gusarov explained to "Pervy Tekhnichesky".
In his opinion, the main difficulty lies in the significant labor intensity. Assembling the Tu-214 requires a large amount of manual work, and the production process takes a long time.
That is, for an aircraft to leave the factory in two years, you need to start producing it now. Acceleration requires not individual machines, but a change in the entire production system: digital drawings, new equipment, specialists, and logistics.
Gusarov noted that a new workshop is being built and equipment is being purchased in Kazan. However, this alone is not enough; personnel still need to master new processes.
Therefore, even stable production of five Tu-214s per year will already be a significant achievement. And higher rates will require scaling up the enterprise itself, the expert concluded.
