The Tu-214 is already morally obsolete due to its aluminum wings and 4th generation PS-90A engines, but it will be able to fly for a very long time. This was stated by aviation expert Andrey Velichko.
According to him, despite all its shortcomings, the Tu-214 is still very much in demand in the aviation industry. However, what exactly is happening with the program is unknown.
In any case, it is a proven and reliable design. Especially a Tupolev design. This aircraft will fly for a very long time. Take the Chinese C-919. A Chinese aircraft. They made it themselves, produce it, and fly it. It has an aluminum wing. There are not many composites in this aircraft. But the Chinese made it and are promoting and developing this program.
OAK head Vadim Badeha stated that in 2026, KAZ will build four aircraft, in 2027 – eight, and from 2027 – 20 aircraft per year. But as of August, only one aircraft has rolled off the assembly line.
The author of the SkyExpert Telegram channel stated that the Tu-214 has reserves for weight reduction by lightening the cabin, but a large-scale redesign of the aircraft with the installation of a new composite wing is economically unjustified.
The "Business Online" publication noted that the revived Tu-214 remained in the same state as 30 years ago, unlike its competitors Boeing 737 and Airbus A320.
