Rostec's United Engine Corporation has developed a gas generator for the PD-8 engine, which incorporates advanced design solutions and can become the basis for an entire family of power plants. As Ilya Konyukhov, General Director of ODK-Saturn, noted, variants for various applications can be created based on the gas generator.
Among the areas already being developed are a helicopter version of the PD-8V for heavy multi-purpose machines, a power plant for a new business jet with thrust of about 10 tons, as well as engines for power generation and the gas transportation industry. Konyukhov emphasized that the engine will be used on the Be-200 aircraft, in helicopter technology, and in ground-based projects.
The PD-8 was originally created for import substitution on SJ-100 regional aircraft. Its gas generator became a platform that allows thrust to be scaled over a wide range. This makes it possible to create engines for specific tasks without developing a fundamentally new design.
ODK emphasizes that the flexibility of the gas generator is a key advantage. It allows for prompt adaptation of the development to the needs of aviation, energy, and industry, reducing the time and costs for creating new engines.
