The initial range of the MS-21 at 3800 km is just a starting point for the aircraft's development, not the limit of its capabilities. This opinion was expressed to "Pervyy Tekhnicheskiy" by aviation expert Roman Gusarov.
According to him, there are many examples in aviation history where civil aircraft significantly increased their range after the start of serial production.
The very first production Superjet went into production with a range of 2400 km. In just a few years, this figure was increased to 4500 km - almost double.
Gusarov recalled that the Boeing 737 followed a similar path. Early versions of the airliner had a relatively small flight range, but during modernizations, the aircraft received new engines, improved aerodynamics, and increased fuel capacity.
As a result, modern versions of the family are capable of covering more than 5000 km.
The initial range of the MS-21 is an excellent starting indicator that will only grow over time.
One of the reasons for the current flight range of the MS-21-310 is said to be overweight wings. However, aviation expert and blogger SkyExpert refuted this point of view.
It is already known that the first batch of MS-21-310 will be received by the Aeroflot group. The discussion was about 200 aircraft until 2030.
