Russia currently lacks the technological capability to create an engine and an aircraft that can surpass foreign counterparts in characteristics and attract foreign buyers. This was stated by Alexey Mordvintsev, head of JetHunter company and aviation expert.
According to him, the sole purpose of creating domestic aircraft and engines is import independence, even if it is unprofitable.
We could become a leading aviation power again; we only need 20–30 years of peaceful development.
Mordvintsev believes that Russia can at most offer China the sale of future engines if China does not have the opportunity to use American or European power units.
As for India, it can be considered a sales market, but here we will compete with Americans, Europeans, and Chinese, and it is not at all certain that in direct competition we will be even slightly interesting.
Currently, Russia is preparing for the certification of import-substituted versions of MC-21 and SJ-100 aircraft. All procedures, as Minprom and Rostec have repeatedly promised, will be completed by the end of 2026.
