State universities in Russia have fully transitioned to digital student IDs. This was announced by Andrey Omelchuk, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
We already have almost 5 million student IDs generated on the unified portal of public services.
Russian universities have been obliged to submit information to the State Information System (GIS), he added.
According to Omelchuk, the digital ID is "more convenient, practical, and efficient" than the traditional one. However, if desired, a student can still use a paper document. Nevertheless, "within two to three years" the digital version will replace it, the Deputy Minister concluded.
